He holds a Bachelor of Science degree as well as a medical degree. He joined SHAPE in 2023 to support health impact assessments, the development of digital data collection systems and monitoring and evaluation systems.

He has supported 7 health impact assessments to date and his previous research and implementation experience of a community health project termed Community Orientated Primary Care under the management of the University of Pretoria for a mining company is invaluable as a core health systems strengthening approach.

James has excellent data management capacity and has developed a range of digitised tools to facilitate SHAPEs field work and is investigating the use of AI in supporting monitoring systems.
