Mark Divall

DIRECTOR

A medical doctor with over 20 years experience in working in remote areas in the natural resource and extractives sector. He holds post graduate qualifications in anaesthesia, occupational health and medicine, tropical medicine and hygiene and environmental medicine. Passionate about Africa, he has extensive experience working in sub-Saharan Africa in his current role at SHAPE and in the past with Newfields and International SOS.

He is a recognised authority in health impact assessments having completed well over 100 assessments in a wide variety of sectors. These include mining, oil and gas, pipelines, power and agriculture. Mark has successfully supported a number of complex large scale projects including recent support of complex large scale mining in Zambia, Guinea and South Africa and oil and gas projects in Mozambique and Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Mark has supported several Group appointments on a part time basis including as First Quantum Minerals Global Health Consultant since 2015 and as a principal advisor on community health and safety to Anglo American from 2020 to 2022. He has supported publications on health impact assessment in peer reviewed journals and reviewed the International Council on Mining and Metals Good Practice Note on health impact assessment in 2009. He is an active member of the International Association of Impact Assessment, where he was co-chair of the health section from 2014 to 2016 and has delivered papers or managed theme forums at annual conferences. Mark is also a member of the Society of Occupational Medicine where he supports the mining section.
